1. Define a Computer network. What are the components of a network? Also discuss its architecture.

2. What kinds of transmission media is used in computer networks?
Write in detail about any two types of transmission media that do not make use of physical wires to transfer data.

3. Compare and contrast OSI and TCP/IP reference models. Give areas where each of these is
used.

4. Define a protocol. Briefly discuss various LAN protocols. Discuss in detail the working of IEEE standard 802.4(token bus).

5. (a) discuss in brief various error detection and correction techniques

(b) Discuss data link protocols in detail.

6. What do you mean by routing? Name different routing algorithms. Explain any one in detail giving examples.

7. What are the network services? Discuss e-mail and remote log in detail.

8. Write short notes on the following:

(a) Packet switching

(b) FDDI

(c) Cryptography
