PART A - (10 x 2 = 20 marks) 

1. What is meant by refractoriness under load?
2. Define a lubricant.
3. What is meant by differential aeration corrosion?
4. What is Electroless plating?
5. Give any two differences between addition and condensation polymerisation.
6. What are polyurethane foams?
7. How is water gas superior to producer gas?
8. Define the terms Cracking and knocking.
9. Define bond length and bond angle.
10. What is SMILES notation?

PART B - (5x16=80 marks) 

11. (a) (i) Give an account of classification of refractories. (10)
(ii) Explain the following properties of lubricants such as Viscosity index, cloud and pour point, flash and fire point. (6)

(b) (j) Discuss briefly the preparation, properties and uses of Alumini bricks. (8)
(ii) Write a short account of Graphite and Molybdenum disulphide as Solid lubricant. (8)

12. (a) (i) What is cathodic protection? Explain sacrificial anode method of controlling corrosion (8)
(ii) Write short notes on electroplating. (8)

(b) (1) What is meant by electrochemical corrosion? Explain its mechanism. (10)
(ii) Discuss briefly on corrosion inhibitors. (06)

13. (a) (1) Discuss the preparation, properties and uses of Teflon and Nylon 6:6. (8)
(ii) Explain the process of vulcanization of rubber. What are its advantages? (8)

(b) (i) Discuss the preparation, properties and uses of Bakelite. (8)
(ii) Explain injection moulding with a neat diagram (8)

14. (a) (i) Describe the manufacture of metallurgical coke by Otto Hoffman's oven method. (8)
(ii) What are LPG and CNG? Discuss the advantage of LPG over gaseous fuel and CNG over LPG. (8)

(b) (i) With a neat diagram explain the analysis of flue gas by Orsat apparatus and mention its significance. (8)
(ii) Explain the manufacture of gasoline by Fischer - Tropsch method. (8)

15. (a) (1) Describe in detail MOL format and PDB format. (8)
(ii) Discuss the representation of structural information with an example. (8)

(b) (i) Write short notes on storage of structural data in a data base. (8)
(ii) Discuss the application of chem-informatics in drug designing. (8)
