Note: Answer any FIVE full questions, selecting atleast TWO questions from each part.
PART-A
Maintenance of tracks in u/g mines is important, why? How do they do it? (08 Marks)
Explain briefly the requirements of good Balasts. Sleeper and Rails, which are used for u/g tracks. (12 Marks)
With a neat sketch of reciprocating compressor, explain its working and limitations.
Explain with a neat sketch, the mechanism of rachet and pawl in lack machine.
Name and explain any two safety devices used neat tracks in u/g mines. mention its hammer drill
Explain with the necessary equations, how to calculate the total cost of transportation in mines. (10 Marks)
With the neat sketches, explain the different types of clips used for attaching the tubs in endless rope haulage. (10 Marks)
Explain on what basis, the wire ropes are selected for effective and safe utilization in mines. (10 Marks)
Describe how reliance capel is to be fitted on a winding rope. (10 Marks)
PART-B
A Locomotive hauls a train of 250 tonnes on a level track at a uniform speed of 45 km / hr.
the frictional resistance is 5kg/tones. Find the effective H.P (Horse power) expended. (06 Marks)
Name the different types of locomotive used in u/g mines. Compare their relative merit and demerits. (14 Marks)
A 90 cm truck is to be installed in a roadway 2500 m long rising 1 in 90. Calculate the power of the motor to run the loaded belt when it is rated to carry 250 tonnes of coal an hour at a speed of 130 meters per minute. Assume the friction factor to be 0.02 and weight of idlers and belt in kg/m run of conveyor to be 70 kg. The belt takes 60 seconds to pick up the velocity. (12 Marks)
b. Write a note on idlers and tensioning arrangements using in belt conveyors. (08 Marks)
7 a. Draw a neat sketch of a king's detaching safety hook, showing its different parts and its position if an over - winding occurs. (10 Marks)
b. Name the four different shapes of drums used in Indian mines for winding systems and explain any two with neat sketches. (10 Marks)
8 a. Find out the static torque at the beginning, Niddle and at the end of the wind when each cage weighs 10 tonnes, carries 6 tubs taring 0.6 tonnes and holding 1 tonne of coal. Take drum diameter to be 2.5m and the depth of the shaft 1000 m. The rope weighs 9 tonnes. (10 Marks)
b. Draw the neat sketches of single drum and double drum systems of hoisting. (10 Marks)
