ANNA UNIVERSITY: CHENNAI – 600 025
B.E./B.Tech.DEGREE EXAMINATIONS, NOV. / DEC. -2014
Regulations – 2008
Seventh Semester
(B.E. Mechanical Engineering/B.E. Production Engineering)
ME 2405 MECHATRONICS LABORATORY
Time: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 100

Practical Exams Question Paper Set IV:

1. Piston rod of a double acting cylinder has to advance if either a manual push button or a foot pedal is operated. The cylinder returns to its starting position slowed down after fully extended. – Design and automate the Pneumatic circuit.  (100)
2. The piston rod of a double acting cylinder is to advance when a limit switch and the push button actuated. If either of these is released then the cylinder is to return to its initial position. - Design and automate using Pneumatic circuit.  (100)
3. A sorting device is used to sort heavy steel work pieces. When a start push button is pressed, the piston of a double acting cylinder pushes the adjacent work piece off the conveyor belt. When the start push button released the piston rod returns to its retracted end position. Construct the automation of sorting device using Electro-hydraulic kit.  (100)
4. Design and automate pneumatic hammer with start and emergency stop using Electropneumatic
kit. (100)
5. Automate continuous actuation of double acting cylinder using PLC. (100)
6. Simulate the single cycle automation of multiple cylinders in sequence A+ B+ A- B – in Pneumatic trainer kit. (100)
7. Simulate the automation of single acting cylinder with AND/parallel logic using Electro  - pneumatic trainer kit. (100)
8. Automate continuous actuation of double acting cylinder with speed control on both directions using Pneumatic trainer kit. (100)
9. Demonstrate the position control of DC motor using servo control interfacing.  (100)

10. Automate continuous reciprocating of single acting cylinder using pilot valve – using Pneumatic trainer kit. (100)
11. Design and simulate a pneumatic circuit for the sequence A+ B- AB+ using Simulation software. (100)
12. Automate A+ B+ A -B – using PLC ladder programming. (100)
13. Study the performance of PID controller in temperature processing. Obtain the plot for time Vs temperature. (100)
14. Run a stepper motor in forward and reverse rotations using 8051 assembly language programming. (100)
15. Run a stepper motor at different speed and direction by using 8051 assembly language programming. (100)
16. Study the performance of current controlled PWM inverter for ac drive application. (100)
17. Observe the four quadrant operation of a DC motor. (100)
18. Simulate continuous actuation of double acting cylinder using simulation software. (100)
19. Design a measurement system involving the use of a thermocouple to determine the temperature of the water in a boiler and give a visual indication on a meter in the range of 0 ۫ to 100 ۫ C. (100)
20. Suggest the elements that might be considered for the measurement system to be used to monitor the pressure in an air. Present the result on a dial indicator. (100)
