A Porter governor has all the four arms 300 mm long. The upper arms are pivoted on the axis of rotation and the lower arms are attached to the sleeve at a distance of 35 mm from the axis. The mass of each ball and the sleeve are 7kg and 54 kg respectively. If the extreme radii of rotation of the balls are 200 mm and 250 mm. determine the range of speed of the governor.

7 (b)
The arms of a Proell governor are each 300 mm long. The upper arms are pivoted on the axis of rotation, while the lower arms are pivoted at a radius of 40 mm. Each ball weighs 5N and is attached to 100 mm long extension of the lower arm, the weight of the sleeve is 60 N. At the minimum radius of 160 mm. the extensions to which balls are attached are parallel to the governor axis. Find the equilibrium speed corresponding to radius 160 mm.

8 (a)
A uniform disc having a mass of 08 kg and a radius of gyration of 150 mm is mounted on one end of a horizontal arm of 200 mm length. The other end of the arm can rotate freely in the universal bearing. The disc is given a clockwise spin of 250 rpm as seen from the disc end of the arm. Determine the motion of the disc if the arm remains horizontal

Or

8 (b)
A disc with radius of gyration of 60 mm and a mass of 4 kg is mounted centrally on a horizontal axle of 80 mm length between the bearings. It spins about the axle at 800 rpm CCW when viewed from the right hand side bearing. The axle precesses about a vertical axis at 150 rpm in the CW direction when viewed from above. Determine the resultant reaction at each bearing due to the mass and the gyroscopic effect.

Each wheel of a motorcycle is of 600 mm diameter and has a moment of inertia of 1.2 kg-m3. The total mass of the motorcycle and the rider is 180 kg and the combined centre of mass is 580 mm above the ground level when the motor cycle is upright. The moment of inertia of the rotating parts of the engine is 0.2 kg-m2. The engine speed is 5 times the speed of the wheels and is in the same sense.
