PART A — (10 × 2 = 20 marks) 

1. List the categories of embedded system. 

2. List any four testing tools used in an embedded system. 

3. Write the salient features of ANSIC. 

4. List out the reasons that complicate the device driver development. 

5. What is the need for capture/compare unit in a microcontroller architecture? 

6. Compare the features of RISC and CISC machine. 

7. What are the advantages of building SR queues? 

8. What is Priority inversion? 

9. List the features of MUCOS RTOS. 

10. What is a task? How many states can a task have? 

PART B — (5 × 16 = 80 marks) 

11. (a) Discuss in detail about the software architecture used in embedded system. (16) 


(b) Discuss the process of generation of executable images in embedded systems. (16) 

12. (a) Explain in detail about the memory management and different types of memory allocations. (16) 


(b) Explain the use of functional calls, data structures of stacks, arrays and lists in C program. (16) 

13. (a) Discuss in detail PIC 16c6x/7x microcontroller based embedded system design. (16) 


(b) Write short notes on ADC and structures of assembly language programming. (16) 

14. (a) (i) What is shared data problem? How to prevent shared data problem? Explain it with an example. (8) 

(ii) Explain the architecture of the kernel of a RTOS. (8) 


(b) (i) Compare the features of message queues, mailboxes, pipes and event functions. (8) 

 (ii) With an example explain the timer functions of a RTOS? (8) 

15. (a) (i) Explain how adaptive cruise control system in a car works? How RTOS helps in implementing this application in a car? (8) 

(ii) What is smart card? With a block diagram explain how the smart card works? (8) 


(b) (i) Explain the use of μc/Os−II . (8) 

 (ii) Draw the block diagram of an automatic chocolate vending machine and explain functions of each block. How RTOS helps in implementing the same? (8)
