Q1)                                                                                                          
a) What do you understand by point of contraflexture?                                  [2]
b) State Principle of Transmissibility of a Force.                                            [2]
c) What are the effects of Torsion and explain torsional rigidity?                   [2]
d) Write relationship between shear force, bending moment and external loading.   [2]
e) Difference between overhanging and continuous beam?                          [2]

Q2)
a) A beam of length (L=10M) and having UDL (W=20 N/M). Determine the reactions at supports.[5]
b) Difference between first and third angle projection?  [5]

c) A point is subjected to a tensile stress of 250 MPa in horizontal direction and another tensile stress of 100 MPa in vertical direction. The point is also subjected to a simple shear of 25 MPa, such that when it is associated with the major tensile stress, it tends to rotate the element in the clockwise direction. What is the magnitude of the normal and shear stresses on a section inclined at an angle of 20º with major tensile stress.   [5]
                           

PART B
Q3) Drive the torsion equation and also state the assumptions made while deriving the torsion equation.     [15]
Q4) A simply supported beam of span L and stiffness EI carries a Uniformly Distributed Load of W/m length. Derive the relation for slope and deflection of beam.   [15]                                                                      
PART C
Q5) A beam AB 10m long has supports at its ends A and B. It carries a point load of 5KN at 3m from A and a point load of 5KN at 7m from A and a U.D.L of1KN/m between the points loads. Draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams. Also find the value and position of maximum bending moment.                   [15]
Q6) A circular steel rod of different cross sections is loaded as shown in fig. below. Find maximum stress induced in the rod and its total deformation. Diameter of section AB (70mm), BC (50mm) and CD is hollow rod of internal diameter 30mm. take E= 200GPa     [15]

Q7) A horizontal line ABCD measuring 9m is acted upon by forces of magnitude 400, 600, 400 and 200 N at points A, B, C and D respectively with downward direction. These points are so located that AB=BC=CD=3m. The lines of action of forces are inclined are inclined at 90º, 60º, 45º and 30º respectively with AD. Make calculations for magnitude, position and direction of resultant.  [15]
